Thirft finds!

I've been getting into thrift shopping a lot the last six months or so. My parents raised me with thrift shopping all the time, and I always hated it! as an adult I haven't really been bitten by the thrifting bug, until about six months ago when I really wanted to redecorate our apartment but we didn't have the budget to do it. Over the last six months, I've been refining my technique and narrowing down what I'm really looking for. I love keeping my eyes peeled for nice brands of clothing (express, banana republic, etc. for me - Gymboree and baby gap for Natalie), anything I like that has no stains, rips, tears or signs of wear that I like comes home with me pretty much. I discovered recently (after my maternity leave started) that we don't have a whole lot in the way of kitchen goods. It's very slim pickings when it comes to making dinner. My love of vintage dishware is definitely getting a work out - it's pretty much impossible to find Pyrex at the thrift store, but there are lots of other crazy awesome goodies to be found. IMG_0574.JPG On one of my recent trips I found these amazing glasses! I wish I had bought all the many styles they had, but I ended up just getting these two sets. Live and learn, huh? IMG_0575.JPG The two sets I found are not true Dorothy Thorpe glasses, they don't have any marks on them and the bands are less than an inch in width. While Thorpe made some of her glasses with thinner or thicker bands than an inch, it was significantly less common. Still, they're pretty cool glasses and both are being gifted to good homes to holiday season - and as an added bonus they were featured on mad men so they're stylishly popular and trendy!

And who doesn't want to drink something wonderfully alcoholic out of a glass you can imagine the womanizing Don Draper to have held?

Finding a rhythm?

I think we might finally be starting to find a rhythm to life around here. Natalie has started sleeping for four-five hour stretches at night (in her own bassinet, gasp!) - we wake up around 7:30 or 8 and she goes back down for a nap around 9. I'm able to get stuff done around the house, get dressed, etc. and she's back up around 10:30 ish and stays up for about three hours or so. Rinse and repeat until around 9:30 when she heads to sleep for the night. Today's agenda is jam packed with errands and appointments galore that need to get done before thanksgiving. =) Today is also officially four weeks since my baby girl was born, I can't believe how fast time in going by. It's been amazing to watch her develop over the last month, she's getting so much stronger and alert/aware of her surroundings. She was officially 9 pounds, 1 ounce at her last pediatrician appointment - about a pound and a half larger than when she was born. I completely spaced on posting photos of this earlier, but she got her very first bath in water (not a sponge bath) about ten days ago. She seemed to like it, or at least not hate it haha!

That’s a wrap!

Finally home from filming and it was such a great experience! I got to work with a special effects artist for the first time. I learned a whole bunch - new techniques to try, new products to play with, etc. and he suggested I start advertising as a special effects artist because he was very impressed by my work. Yay!

Quick pics from on set!

We're shooting at an old theatre in Georgia for the majority of the shoot this week and they just wrapped on a production of little shop of horrors and hadn't yet torn down their set. Well that was my treat! I was all about some Audrey action!

Living the dream…

I'm finally back on a film set again (my last short film I worked on wrapped in December 2013). I definitely missed it, it's like summer camp for adults in a way. I'll be on set working on another horror short film for a director I loved working with previously all this week (we wrap on Saturday). Films are one of those weird situations where you hurry up to wait. Lots of short bursts of flurried action and then lots of waiting around for different parts to catch up, rinse and repeat. You'll probably see lots more updates this week because of all the downtime =) Not that I'm complaining, mind you, downtime is awesome for the 35 week pregnant lady. <3

Child birthing classes, who needs ’em?! ……right?

So we tried to go to our childbirth education class this past Saturday. It was supposed to be a two part class over the course of two Saturdays with the second session featuring a tour of the labor and delivery ward. Well. Friday night I went online to double check what Brian and I needed to bring with us....only to discover absolutely no record of there ever having been a class at all. The dates and times for our class were gone without a trace, the only clue being to call a number and leave a message if we had questions. So I did this and never got a call back, sadly. Brian and I took the chance that maybe the info was gone because the class was full and trudged on over the hospital bright and early to learn all the many things we could about having babies. Sadly we were disappointed. The hospital was a ghost town, literally no people as far as the eye could see. An empty information and welcome desk greeted us as we walked in, which did not seem a good sign. We went upstairs and found our classroom.... Locked and completely dark with no signs or notes or people to show that a baby having class had ever taken place there. Disappointed does not begin to describe it. We had both requested time off work to make this class and were definitely looking forward to it. Instead we headed to books-a-million where I ordered a copy of Ina May Gaskin's guide to natural child birthing as a substitute. Luckily the woman we saw there happened to be just as pregnant as me and about to take an online child birthing class, so I think we'll pursue that option and see where it goes. And at the end of the day, this baby is gonna come out whether I've taken a special class or not. =)

Digging on my cosplay

I only managed to snag one selfie from the weekend at dragoncon, I seriously need to get better about taking pictures. My mom gave us her old dslr camera for us to photograph baby, so hopefully that will be the inspiration to get me to start taking more pics! That being said, I was so pleased with how my Daenerys Stormborn cosplay turned out!
